Springtime Clean Up
Since your home is more than likely your greatest asset you will want to keep it in top shape. I’m sure you have heard of the phrase spring cleaning, but keep in mind that you should maintain and clean your home all throughout the year not just during the Spring. Just like a car needs regularly scheduled oil changes to keep running smoothly, a house need some tender loving care as well to remain in top shape over the years. Not only does a house support a family living in it, but it is also subject to the wear and tear of mother nature. That is why it is important to keep in mind maintaining both the interior and exterior of your home regularly over the years that you own it.
The following are some good tips to keep in mind when taking good care of your home on a monthly basis. You will want to inspect HVAC filters and replace them if necessary. Your filters will get dirty to varying degrees based on if you have pets, or any specific allergies. Just be sure to check them monthly and change them out when needed. You should also clean out your kitchen sink disposal on a monthly basis. An easy way to do this is to make vinegar ice cubes then let them run down the disposal. It is a great way to clean and freshen up your disposal which no doubt gets quite the beating.
Furthermore, there are some things that you should do quarterly to keep your home in top shape. One thing you will want to make sure to do is to test smoke and carbon dioxide dectectors. This will help to keep your family safe and alert you in the event of a crisis. Another thing to do is to test your garage door for its auto reverse capability. Since 1993 federal law required all garage doors to start reversing after about a second or two because there were so many child deaths. Place an object in the way of the garage door in order to test that it will reverse.
Next, there are some things you should do annually. In Spring, you will want to clean out the gutters, inspect the exterior or your home, consider having your air conditioning unit serviced, and clear dead plants from the house. If you are looking for gutter cleaning, there are many professionals who can be of great assistance. You want to make sure that your gutters are clear of any debris so that water can freely flow and be whisked away from your home. If you notice any cracks or problems with your gutter make sure to get it repaired right away. If your gutters are simply old, consider replacing them with something newer. Your gutters can be pieced together or they can be one long, continuous system. In the Fall, you will want to flush out the hot water heater, get the chimney cleaned, check your driveway or pavement for any cracks, and winterize any air conditioning unit that you may have. So keep some of these tips in mind when trying to keep your home in tip top shape. It is your greatest asset and needs to be treated as such.
